If I have a double slotted 60 amp breaker for an electrical box. Is both side 60amps a peice or 30?
I need to install a 120 amp breaker in a comercial electrical box (cutler hammer) will a dual 60 amp work or do I need a a flat out 120 amp breaker?
I need at least 50 amps per side A/B
So if I have a dual slotted 60 amp breaker this should sufice right? the only downfall I see is, if you trip one side, it all shuts down.
A 2 pole 60 amp breaker will give you a max of 60 amps, (60A for A phase and 60A for B phase = 60A total, I know it dont add up but thats the way it is LOL) if you need 120 amps you will need a breaker of 125 amps since they do not make a 120A breaker.
Since you needed to ask this question I really would encourage you to provide more details so that I/we can help you out. Or please consult a local electrician because it can be very dangerous to make this connection incorrectly.
Yes a 60 Amp 2 pole breaker will allow the 50 amps that you need but be aware that the wire must be large enough to handle the 60A (#6 AWG). It must break both sides at the same time this is done for saftey reasons ie. to prevent series circuiting and burning up electronics.
