It is difficult for most people to understand the horror every moment brings to those poor souls who suspect their partner is cheating on them. The suspicion of infidelity can be even worse than knowing for certain.

While it may be little consolation in the short term, statistics show that in cases where people think their partner is cheating, they are right over 85 percent of the time.

 

 

Infidelity expert James Lam says that all the information people need to determine infidelity is usually right under their nose. Doing one's own investigations can be dangerous in more ways than one, he cautions. But companies like his meet customers half-way.

 

"The most obvious requirement of an affair is communication," Lam explains.

 

"If they are cheating, they are talking. The trick is to determine who they are talking to and when. While they are likely only calling this other person from their cell phone while you're not around, it wouldn't hurt to check to look at numbers called or received on the cell phone and the home phone. Any suspicious number should be identified."

 

And identifying numbers is his business. While landline numbers aren't as much of a problem, it can be difficult or impossible for the average person to perform a cell phone number search. "Until you know who they are talking to, you can forget figuring out anything else."

 

The tell-tale calls, Lam says, are those made in private. People should look for calls made on a cell phone early in the morning, while the suspected cheater may be on their on their way to work, calls made during the day when their partner isn't present, or while the suspect is on their lunch break or driving home. Of particular interest are the calls made just before they suddenly have to leave the house or before they are drawn away from a party or event.

 

"Once a person identifies who their partner is talking to, there is something to investigate. Often, that is all that is needed."
